Challenges and opportunities of a sustainability area

Does it sound familiar to you that today we talk about being green, about opportunities, equity and inclusion? But what does this mean, who and how is it done? I leave you the tips that are important for me to value when starting a Sustainability area in any company. When we talk about sustainability there are different concepts that come to mind, depending on the environment or experiences we have had. Currently, the concept within companies is beginning to be standardized; despite being an issue that has been part of the international agenda for decades, the direct participation of organizations, at least in our country, has grown slowly. Large companies are the ones who have taken the leadership derived from their economic potential and capacity to react.

More and more companies of all USA Phone Number List  types and sizes are joining in to make efforts in this area. A year ago I had the opportunity to start the adventure of creating the sustainability area from scratch and a year later I found it interesting to share the learnings I have obtained during this time. Here are some tips. Definition/delimitation of functions. Something that seems natural for an area can become complex for a newly created area, having to adapt to what already exists. In the particular case of the sustainability area, complexity arises when trying to identify from the already existing tasks which, by their nature, belong to the area and which should continue to be the responsibility of areas such as Marketing or Human Resources.



Nobody knows more than all together. Reference frame selection. There are different ways to approach the sustainability strategy in companies. When there is no history of how to guide the company's efforts in this area, one of the important issues to define is how we want to address the issue of sustainability, what type of actions we want to promote, what framework of reference we are going to use to support our strategy (ISO, Global Compact, SDG, etc.). Select the one that makes the most sense with the culture of your organization, the one that connects in a simple way with what they do, this will facilitate the adoption of the model and the inclusion of the topic within daily activities. How to select/prioritize projects. There are so many topics of focus that it is necessary to select and prioritize the projects on which we are going to focus resources.
